So here's the absolute basics for the game.
Pretty obvious stuff, but I'll post it anyway. There's always one, eh?
Starter Money
Ok, so now that you've joined and got activated (don't forget do activate!!) you will need some of that lovely stuff called cash.
As with the old Horseland, HP uses good ol' dollars. None of that coin nonsense!
Basic players get an allowance of $40,000 (forty thousand) each Sunday. To collect your first money, simply click on "Go to Bank" on your home page and then click "collect paycheck". There you go! You now have money to buy your first animal/s!
Choosing your Breed Specialty
One of the first things you should do is choose your breed specialty. The breed you choose as your specialty will receive double the points from their unruns. You can only have one specialty per account, being any dog or horse breed. Also, when you choose to upgrade, you will be able to use the enter all button on your chosen breed.
First Purchase!
YAY! You have money! Now get to the Store!
So. The Store has a lot of stuff in it that you need to sort out.
For Basic players, you only get to buy animals. Everything else is for Premium players only.
To buy an animal, simply go to the dropdown menu for your species, click on the gender (male or female) then click the downwards arrow beside breed and click on the one you want.
Next click "Buy Now" and the animal/s go/es to your account.
Naming And Stuff
To name your animal, click on where it says "Store Horse" or "Store Dog" and the animal's page will come up.
Now all you do it type in the information for the animal and click "Update Details". There you go! Saved!
Health Care
Another important feature on the animal is the Vet and Farrier or Groomer.
Visiting these is important because you need to have had them done before you can train your animal.
Just click on each of them. You will be told how healthy your animal is and if anything is wrong with it. Each healthy visit is $50, but if an animal has problems, you will be charged more.
Feeding Time!
Another vital thing you need to do is find someone to board your animal! At first, all animals are boarded with Samantha (account #1). After 7 days, the feed will run out and you will have to find a new place.
Only Premium players can board horses and dogs, so you'll need to do a search to find a stable/kennel.
Go to your animal's page (if you're not already on it) and go down to "Kennel" or "Stable". Click the dropdown list there. You will see a list of Premium players who offer the required service, plus their ID number and fee.
Click the person's name, and then pay the money.
Alternatively, you can search for a player and type in their ID number.
Finding More Boarding Places
To do this, go to the top of your animal's page and you will see a list of links.
Click "Search" then "Player Search". Now chose either "Search for a boarding stable?" or "Search for a boarding kennel"? Then hit the "Search" button at the bottom.
From this, you will get a full list of Premium players who offer what you're looking for.
There's:
Player Name & ID number
Stable
Kennel
You'll also see if the kennels and boarding is available to the public or not.
Another thing that's listed there, is whether they have training tickets available to the public, but I'll get to that later.
Clicking on the player's name will take you to their home page. If you scroll down to the part of the page where their Riding Buddy list is, you will be abel to click on "View Stable" or "View Kennel" and see how busy the place is and how good at feeding the player is.
So to board your horse or dog, take note of the boarding place's ID number and go to your animal's page. Type in that number into the ID box and clcik "Change kennel" or "Change stable".
And there you have it! You are now a boarder and your animal will get fed. BUT you MUST ensure you pay your board fee when necessary or the stable/kennel owner will send your animal to the HP Humane Place!
Training Time!
Now comes what can be the boring bit. Training.
First, go to the bottom of your animal's page and click the "Enter Shows" link.
If you wish to train for the next day (for example training for Tuesday on a Monday) all you do is click "Search!". A whole list of shows will appear, the run date, the availability of the show as well as the show-makers' names.
To enter the shows, click the show's name and go to the "Enter Class" button.
THIS is the boring bit! You now have to keep clicking until the "End of Show" text comes up.
Now all you have to do is repeat this process! 100% health on an animal allows 1,080 unruns (classes) to be entered.
Premium players get 1,100 unruns.
Health
When an animal is at 100% health, a basic player can enter it into a maximum of 1,080 classes. Premium players can enter 1,100 classes.
According to Xotik, it's 100 classes per 7% health. But I think this has to be confirmed?
Now, on HL, when you train, you have to keep a conscious track of how many shows you are entering so as to not waste money on classes which will not run. But on HP, you will be automatically told when your animal does not have enough health to enter any more classes.
On HL, health drops during the running of classes, but on HP it drops during the actual training process so that at midnight, health recovers and usually recovers pretty well! It also doesn't take too long for health to return to 100%.
Players are informed of required vet, farrier and groomer visits automatically, which is good!
Personal Pictures
Now, obviously you will want our animals' pages to look good. Here's how you do it!
First, you need to ensure that any pictures you add to HP are from stock sites or have been given the owner's permission for it's use. Plus, it HAS to be fully credited. Otherwise a Moderator could delete it. Places like DA, or Flikr are common places to find picture stock, but you have to read the rules of usage to be sure it's allowed on SIM games. Most of the time, especially on a smaller site like HP, people do not get away with using images hat aren't allowed, so its best not to even bother trying. You can purchase layouts and images for your animals in the graphics auctions page as well. This is a great place to find the perfect picture for your animal, however it's always a good idea to make sure you check the credits on the image you're interested in before you bid on it. If you're going to make your own pictures, you need an photo editing program such as Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro or Gimp. You can get free trials of these programs on the internet. Also, your personal pics must be a max of 800x600 pixels in size.
Breeding
Well! Now that you are on your way to high-pointed animals, you'll want to breed them. So how do you do that?
Well, I personally breed my animals a maximum of two times. This is a habit I picked up from HL where foal/pup deaths often happen. The first baby is a "backup" in case the second baby dies (or in the case of HP, is a gelding foal). The first baby will obviously have less points than the second.
To actually do the breeding, you need to make sure your animals are healthy. Next, go to the stud's page and make him available to breed by going down to the part that says "Available for Stud?" and selecting the "yes - private" option.
If you wish to breed to your female only, make the breeding private using the next option, then put $1 into the fee box and click update details.
You will now see a new box has appeared on the stud's page. This is where the female's name can be selected. So click the drop down arrow and then click the female's name. Now click "request breeding".
Yet another box will appear showing the female animal's name plus an "accept" button on the left and a "reject" button on the right. If you're certain you wish to breed, then click "accept". An automatic message will be shown telling you the baby has been born and there will be a link for you to view it!
Click that and you will see your newborn foal or pup!
Public Breeding
Although some people prefer to keep their studs for private breeding only, you also have the option to let other players breed their animals to your stud. On you're animal's page, find 'Update Horse/dog information' , and where it says 'Breeding', you have the option to change it to public stud, and what price the public will have to pay to breed with your stud. Although it's entirely your choice what to charge, it's best to look around and see what other's are charging for their stud as well.
Upgrading your account
To upgrade your account, you or someone you know must have a paypal account, and you have to use either a bank card, credit card or your paypal balance for an instant upgrade. You can also buy one with HPD using the Upgrades Auction page. You should NEVER buy one from someone if they're not offering it through the auctions because the moderators can't do anything about it if you get scammed. However they can help you if you get scammed somehow through the auctions.
There are great benefits to upgrading your account. Most importantly (imo), the Enter all button! This can be used only with your chosen breed specialty. It saves you a lot of time with training by entering all 100 classes in the show in one click. Also, while basic accounts get 40,000 HPD once a week, upgraded accounts get 400,000 a week.Having a public boarding facility is also a feature of the upgrade., as basic accounts cannot have their own stables and kennels. You still have the choice though to keep it private if you want to keep your stable/kennel for your own animals. Other perks to upgrading are, the ability to vote in clubs, only upgraded players can run for presidency in clubs, you can make private shows that no one can enter unless you let them, you can own associations, and there are chat rooms specifically for upgraded accounts.
Using Chat and Advertisement boards
If you're bored and feel like talking, or if you need to advertise something, the chat boards are the place to be. To get there, go to the top of your page and look for the 'Interact' dropdown menu, and choose 'Talk'. This brings you to advertisements, and chat. When you're using the Advertisement boards, you should always be considerate of the other players trying to advertise for themselves as well. There is a maximum of two posts per player allowed, any more is considered flooding. No matter what chat you're in, begging for money/animals/graphics or anything is considered rude and it's just annoying. Also, do not advertise in basic chat, or you will most likely be told off by many players. Remember, you only have to press enter once to get your message posted.
Cursing is not allowed in any chat. I've been booted from chat for saying damn on HP, so it's best to watch what you say..Don't just assume there isn't a moderator watching. You can also be booted from chat for arguing if you don't listen to the moderator when they ask you to stop, so if someone is saying something stupid or something you don't agree with, it's best to just ignore them.
